ImageThe Juxtopia Group, Inc. is a 501c(3) not for profit organization established in 2000 an founded by Dr. Jayfus Tucker Doswell. The Juxtopia Group has goals to 1.) reduce the critical learning gap of underserved and disadvantaged minorities in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) at all educational levels; and 2.) Increase the number of underserved and disadvantaged minorities that pursue PhD degrees, contribute to STEM related careers, and establish STEM related businesses.

To achieve these goals, the Juxtopia Group, Inc. conducts empirical theoretical and application based research & development activities to investigate effective learning tools and pedagogical approaches that improve, augment, and accelerate human learning performance of underserved and disadvantaged minorities.

As a reflection of its founder’s commitment to STEM excellence and community, The Juxtopia Group takes a holistic perspective to solve the STEM learning divide juxtaposing anthropology, biology, cognitive science, educational technology, environmental science, history, sociology, neuroscience, psychology, and public health with science and technology methods. By leveraging this multidisciplinary research method, The Juxtopia Group measures significant STEM learning relationships including but not limited to: relationships between self-image and learning motivation, multi-culture pedagogy and accelerated learning, societal influences on STEM learning, environmental context on the brain based learning, how disadvantaged groups learn in multiple learning environments, mental health and learning outcomes, and the neural, cognitive, affective, and conceptual learning processes required for life-long SMET learning.

From prototyping next generation learning technology such as virtual reality learning simulations to investigating hands on STEM learning using robotic systems, The Juxtopia Group validates and measures its STEM learning approaches and corresponding instruction technologies against evolving state and federal standards.
